Good article. Can't disagree with much if anything.

Do you really think they get Smith and Krug for $5.5 combined......?
(Was thinking around $3.5 per.......I hope your right..... if it's higher than your number I would be hesitant. )

What do you sincerely think Chia does with Lucic as far as a contract extension goes......?
(Does he take a pay cut? Does he take a big hometown discount?......I'm scared Chia does the classic Chia pet move and offers him a big 5 yr $7.5 million per contract with a NMC..... )

Very good blog, pretty spot on with just about everything.

You may want to mentor James Tanner...his blogs are the complete opposite!

Happy New Year Ty. Good to see you back and writing.

Personally, I would love to see management move at least three of our veterans out for cap relief. More if they are able. I would start with Kelly, Seidenberg and Campbell. Take picks or prospects or whatever. Anything but salary in return. Then let some of the talent in Providence show what it can do.

Even with some fairly major additions from outside the organization, I do not see this team competing for a Cup this year. They need to get in next year mode and not sell all of our assets (or give them away like Fraser) in a panicked effort to save the season. It is not worth it in the long run.

We NEED to sign Soderberg to a long-term deal, no matter what. He is one of our top three forwards in any given game. I will lose it if we let him walk after this season.

On the other hand, and I know I am going to get spit at for this, but we need to trade Lucic while he has a lot of value. We are not going to be able to fit him in under the cap after next year, so trade him now and get the best value for a player that is going to walk away in eighteen months anyway.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion so stop being such a baby
Did you see Krejci getting punched in the back of the head last night, and nobody did anything about it except for #17. I just think a guy like that is valuable to a team like the Bruins.

If you saw my posts you would see that if he plays like that he is, and I quote, "unstoppable."

I agree, he is amazing when he is playing like that........

My concern is that he is unreliable.......because he is inconsistent.

BUT.....he is amazing when he moves his feet.

Yeah yeah, I am a huge Lucic fan, but he is not going to be affordable to the Bruins when his next contract comes due at the end of next season. Someone will give him $6.5-$7M per year and that would devastate our salary cap situation. I just hate seeing assets let go for no return. I would rather trade an asset now than give it away for free later.

Do you guys here any rumors of Oshie and Berglund to the Bruins? Before the roster freeze there was talk in St Louis about it being a possibility. Just wondering if anything like that is being talked about in Boston

With Smith/Krug, you gotta be honest in negotiations and look at the market around him. I think Krug is similar to Danny DeKeyser in terms of his talent and skill-set (second pairing on their best day, but closer to third pairing, but ultra-talented on power play), so that's a comparable contract. And Smith is a 20-goal scoring winger that does most of his damage in spurts. He's not a $3.5M guy, I wouldn't think.

One issue I'm seeing with some logic on the board is you can't just gift away aging vets without taking salary back. Go play around with the trade machine on capgeek.com, the B's especially with no trade clauses (ie Chris Kelly, Seidenberg, Chara) don't have a ton of room to make a splash. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but this isn't football where you can cut guys and move on.

I doubt PC is going to get canned if they don't make the playoffs but frankly he has been a little too loyal and has made this team happy and overpaid. We don't know what's happening behind closed doors but it is becoming more apparent it's what the Red Sox called a "bridge year" seeing what talent they have in the organization while some veterans are going to move on to greener pastures. While younger guys who have proved themselves are going to need contracts...Dougie, Krug, Bartowski, Soderberg. If I was PC, I'd be looking to give Dougie a long term deal that will get him at a price that he will grow into. He is going to be stud at the blueline by the time he hits 25-26, so overpaying him now and letting him grow into the contract while on the backend it will look like he is underpaid when he is a top 5 dman.

Chara for 4 more years on this blueline is not going to go well. He has always been slow and I know he is skating around on a bum wheel but lately he is just getting people's way on puck races.

This team needs a shake-up and I just don't think the management style of PC and CJ lends itself to doing anything too drastic. Making Lucic a healthy scratch the other night is about as close to a shake up as we are going to get otherwise business as usual.

4 out of 5 this week would be huge OTT, @CAR, @PIT, NJD @PHI

I do think he is inconsistent, not sure about unreliable, let's see how he does with a healthy dose of Krejci on his wing for more than a week or two, HEY I'm not unrealistic they may NOT be able to re-sign him if he is looking for long-term deal over 7M, If they don't wake-up and change things soon they may be golfing come April then we'll see where everyone's stock is.

As much as everyone Loves these guys (including me) there's No way I'm giving Smith Top-6 forward money, way too inconsistent and Krug turns the puck over way too much for a Top-4 spot

It was before the Freeze but that has gone silent, more of the talk centered around Oshie swap for Erikksson and either Top prospect or a pick, But from what was being said the B's want even swap. Berglund's name was mentioned but very briefly and in-descriptive as far as value going back.

I don't understand the Oshie for Ericksson argument.....

I'm not the biggest Ericksson fan but he DOES HAVE big value.

He is a possession machine......it may not be noticed most nights, but he has had good Corsi numbers for the last two seasons.

Example.......Bergy is always a top Corsi (possession guy) in the NHL.
......hence no matter who plays on his line they will be top Corsi guys too......

They ride his coattails as Seguin did before he was traded.

Ericksson is the next Bruins forward after Bergy......and the coattail guys, Smith and Marchand.......

So Ericksson is a very good two way forward......as much as people may not want to say it.......he is kinda the guy "defensively" that helps drive that third line........

So Pitt gets Perron.....he is off the board.

This is what scares me about this team this year.

We are not as good as we were last year....obviously.

AND.......MTL and Pitt and Tampa are better than they were last year.

AND PLUS.......these teams are STILL getting better.

Pitt with Parron could be big.....just got bigger on the wing.

MTL is trying to get Eberle........that would make them so much better than last years team that booted us.

Tampa is looking for another winger too.....

We on the other hand are trying to just find a player to replace Iggy........but that just gets us to last years team on the front end.......never mind the backside.

I thought Jeff Petry from Edmonton was supposed to be a comparable for Krug......?

Petry signed for $3.1 mil.......one year.

Even scarier.........Jake Gardiner.......Toronto gave him a 5 yr, $20.25 million contrat......$4.05 per.......I realize Gardiner plays 3 mins more a game, but with the way prices go up every year.......

I can't see Krug getting less that $3 mill.....at least.

Smith comparables...........Tyler Johnson and Ondrej Palat of Tampa Bay......

Signed 3 yr $10 million a year contracts.......20 goal scores around the same age.

This is one of those moments you look back at 18 months from now and say........"why would Peter sign Kelly for $3 mil a year for 3 years....."

This is a critical point for the Bruins........we only have SIX PLAYERS locked up after NEXT YEAR.......6....Chara, Bergy, Krejic, Rask, Seindenberg, and Marchand.

It's kinda crazy to think about.....but I hope they don't repeat the Kelly and Peverly mistakes.

Thanks. See you here in st louis on february 20th. THE ONLY TIME I WILL EVER WEAR A DIFFERENT JERSEY TO A BLUES GAME. Have loved the Bruins forever and i have a local paper celebrating the Cup in 2011 and have saved the email. yeah, weird, but i can't bring myself to erase it.

Cheers
